Company called me to do a service call for regular maintenance on a system less than 1 year old. First service call was around $400 which was steep but I noticed they charged like $130 to change the air filter. Ok, I will tell them not to do that next time.

When they called to do the service call I pointed out that there was a zoned tstat that was not functioning properly and neded to be changed. This is what they charged me:.

$180 to change the t-stat that was still under warranty. Had it not been under warranty the tstat with install would have been $650. I called a couple of supply houses, I can get the tstat for $325. I offered to change the tstate myself but they said it would void the warranty.

$239 for “Diagnosis fee” to determine that the tstat I told them was broken, was in fact broken.

$200 to do annual maintenance for propane furnace.

2 guys (one was an apprentice and stood around with his hands in his pockets) were here for 3.5 hours to do all this “work” but it was really only 45 minutes of actual work. Pricing is flat for these services, not charged by time. All the bad google reviews are about this insane pricing structure and the owner actually responds trying to justify the charges.

This pricing is insane, correct? Over $1k in general preventative maintenance and one tstat change on a system less than 1 year old?
